How to Get Rid of Dark Spots on the Body

How to Get Rid of Dark Spots on the Body

The skin of the face and the body (below the neck) are different in many different ways.  It is important to know that different methods for dark spot removal should be used for both the face and body.  The reason for this is the skin of the face is a lot thinner and more delicate than the skin on your body.

Get the Best Results-Exfoliate

Removing dark spots or areas of hyperpigmentation on the body is going to be more difficult without exfoliating.  Exfoliating speeds up cell turnover and allows the spots to be removed more quickly, efficiently, and also has some anti-aging benefits.  The best way to exfoliate the body is with an exfoliating device like an exfoliating cloth and a chemical exfoliant like a kojic acid bar.  Pay attention to very stubborn and darker areas by applying a bit more pressure in those areas. Keep in mind that by wetting exfoliating cloth and using it with the kojic acid bar, it can be used for all areas below the neck. Using both of these to exfoliate will produce optimal results.

Applying Skin Lightening Creams or Lotions

One of the most important steps after exfoliating is to apply a skin lightening agent.  Skin lightening creams or lotions for use on the body will also most likely contain an exfoliant to help speed up the process.  This is nothing to be concerned about because the thick skin of the body can take a lot more exfoliants or aha's than the delicate skin of the face can.  For hyperpigmenation all over the body use a skin lightening lotion, but for more stubborn and harder to lighten areas like the knees, elbows, knuckles, etc. a more concentrated skin lightening cream may be required.

Protect The Skin

Newly lightened areas, especially the areas lightened using skin lightening creams that contain alpha hydroxy acids or aha's need to be protected from the the sun for at least 3 months to avoid tanning and to give the delicate, newly revealed skin a chance to heal, and regenerate.  Protect those areas by keeping them covered with clothing or using a good sunblock in the areas and make sure that they do not get exposed to the harsh rays of the sun.

By following these tips for getting rid of dark spots and lightening the body, you will have flawless, glowing skin that you can reveal at any time.
